"We like you as a person"
kerplunkLYN
This was what my boss told me, as consolation, maybe, for telling me that I suck at my job! I think it's on par with, "It's not you, it's me." However, in this case, it's me. ****.
jillraye
Lyn, that sucks. I've been told that, not in so many words. More like, "You have a great personality and everyone who calls in really appreciates your friendliness. However..."
SultryD
Did he fire you?
kerplunkLYN
The worst part is I'm really trying...and apparently, failing...
kerplunkLYN
No, not fired. But not hired as a full time basis. I think I'm going to apply for other jobs. I'm not secure here, and it makes me unhappy.
jillraye
What do you do, Lyn?
SultryD
oh it was a part time/temp. deal? Hmmm yeah just keep looking elsewhere until something fulltime comes up. I wish you the best.
Kendra_is_Kendra
Oh, Booo but on the upside they like who you are, which although not what you're really striving for in your job, per se, is nice in itself. Sucks, though, not feeling secure.
kerplunkLYN
Executive Assistant. Basically, a glorified secretary. I don't really like what I do. There is no passion here. But, I don't hate it, I don't dread it, so I'm content. What I do dread is feeling like I don't do my job well enough. I feel like I do it to the best of my ability, but that it's not good enough. I even told my boss, "if I'm not up to par, I'm not up to par." I guess, I will just keep looking, this doesn't seem to be the right fit.
kerplunkLYN
Oh, Booo but on the upside they like who you are, which although not what you're really striving for in your job, per se, is nice in itself. Sucks, though, not feeling secure. They did a study on this. And, they'd much rather keep the likeable inefficient person, than the super efficient pain in the ass. So, at least 10% of the time, someone likeable gets the promotion over somone more qualified....I tried to explain it to my brother, drunk one day. He didn't get it!
jillraye
Executive AssistantMe too! Glorified secretary is right. Which is why I've gone back to school. Gonna find me something fulfilling...
Oh Kay
So did he tell you what you're not up to par on?
Sissy_1
And, they'd much rather keep the likeable inefficient person, than the super efficient pain in the ass.everytime...they will take the likeable, inefficient person. I find this hard to believe Lyn....We see a sampling of your work...I know of a job opening as a PR/AR/AP....but you'd have to move....but I'd hire ya.

could this be a direct relation to the time you spend on the boards?
SultryD
could this be a direct correlation to the time you spend on the boards? If that werethe case, we'd all be fired.
jillraye
could this be a direct correlation to the time you spend on the boards?Oh man...I'm sure they know, but I hope they never say anything to me.
kerplunkLYN
So did he tell you what you're not up to par on?He didn't have to tell me. I'm not up to par. I know that. It doesn't help coming in after the one before me. She had no training, and did a way better job than I did. could this be a direct correlation to the time you spend on the boards? You're new. But, if you weren't, you'd have notice my severe decrease in the time I spend here.
Sissy_1
you'd have notice my severe decrease in the time I spend here.yep.
b lunted
You're new. But, if you weren't, you'd have notice my severe decrease in the time I spend here.Actually, I've been lurking since March 2006, and am all knowing.still on here a lot though
quickblade14
Have they got a lesser responsibliitied position to ease you into? Have they approached you with a plan to learn efficiency and skills required to keep your job?Or is this the professional equivalent of "we really shouldn't see each other anymore" that will be emerging in the pink slip in next week's check?
kerplunkLYN
The security I have is that if they let me go, there would be no one to train my replacement. I may not be up to their standards but they certainly have no time to hand hold a newbie. I think what I'll propose is them finding someone better suited, I'll look for a new job, and stick around to show her/him the ropes.
Sissy_1
I may not be up to their standards but they certainly have no time to hand hold a newbie.I'd look for the new job..and have one in place BEFORE you have this conversation.
quickblade14
Did you not say that the person before you had no training, and your work compared to her non-trained effort is subpar?I would think they would be less concerned about having you train someone as they consider your results not what they consider successful.I would do a cost analysis to them about your potentially recommending that they find someone better suited. It might be more economically feasible to pay nothing to your position, delegate out the tasks for a short period of time while hiring someone else. Than to pay you for subpar performance, pay a new person to learn sub-par standards. If you're working thru an employment agency, it'd be prudent to find out if they're paying the agency considerably more than you receive per hour. Making it even more cost effective to find someone else while dismissing you immediately.
Nessa_Raye
Awe Lyn that sucks that they said this cause I know you're one smart lady, I can understand that you may not be up to the standards they want especially if you aren't really passionate about your job. I think it's a good idea to look for something else, maybe you'll find something that you'll absolutely love and in the mean time you have some security!
Socal1962
Bummer Lyn. I like you as a person too, I'd even spoon with you.
SultryDeWeirdo
Haa Haa Haa I KNEW IT!!!!!!!!!!!!11
SultryDeWeirdo
Super efficient, yeah right lyn, that's why you spend so much time on these boards. They canned your a$$ because you can't even do the job of a glorified secretary. Quit deceiving yourself and go and get a job you ARE qualified for, janitor maybe? Then that way you will have to actually work, janitor's don't use computers during the course of their day.
b lunted
DS, shouldn't you be on the marriage boards getting told off due to your misogynistic views?
b lunted
naw, I just got off since i'm the last stopIt's funny how grown men older than me stoop to these levels of mediocrity
Socal1962
They canned your a$$ She wasn't fired. Maybe you should read the whole thread. What an asshat.
jillraye
Demonspawn - go back to hell.
Socal1962
Where did she say she was fired or moved to parttime? Your diminished brain cells only allow you to read what you want. Maybe go pay some child support to kids you didn't father or the court won't let you see.
SultryDeWeirdo
No, not fired. But not hired as a full time basis.Well if you're not fired but you're not full time WHAT THE FVCK ARE YOU?Edit: oops my bad. They just didn't want her anymore
kerplunkLYN
I'm still on my probationary period. But, it's fine. I will start looking elsewhere.
