43 single, no kids UPDATE
nerdo
Thank you all for responding to my post last week about the man, never married no kids at 43. I know some of you thought I was being silly for questioning what could be "wrong" with him...let me give you an update We had plans to go out Saturday night, I was getting into town about 10 pm. Anyway, at 6 pm he called and said he was cold from all the rain (Cleveland, weather here sucks most of the time) so he was going to go take a bath and ask his mommy to make him some soup! He said he might take a nap too, so I should call him when I got into town...I was mean and didn't call momma's boy.
Coool Dad
ask his mommy to make him some soup! You mean you don't want to be his second Mommy LOL. He probably appreciated you not interrupting his nap, so you weren't mean. Move on you don't need a 43 year old that still lives with Mom and Dad.

Oh Kay
so he was going to go take a bath and ask his mommy to make him some soup! Oh there's just so much wrong with that. He didn't actually use the word mommy though, did he?

He didn't actually use the word mommy though, did he?No he said "mom", I was wondering if he was going to ask "mommy" to bathe him too??? Eeewa!

The whole conversation reminded me of that Stephen King movie...you know the one with the mom and the son and the cats all over? I can't remeber the title (sleep walkers, maybe?)

technically, he lives down the street...I almost stopped dating a guy because he lived down the street from his sister and mom. The guy before him was a bit of a momma's boy and I didn't want to go there again. Worked out okay though no family drama, no momma's boy. It was all good. Another theory on the momma's boy could be that mommy never likes anyone he brings home. The guy I dated flat out told me that if mom didn't like me I was out. Not that I waited around for that.

A mama's boy. Wow. Lives right down the street from her, too? Dating anyone who is too close to their parents ain't fun. It's an attractive quality when they love their parents, treat them kindly and with respect and appreciation, but let it stop there. I dated a Daddy's boy for quite awhile. There is a very immature and juvenile/icky quality about a person who has not really cut the strings.

The guy I dated flat out told me that if mom didn't like me I was out. Parental approval is not such a bad thing as it can provide an all important reality check. My aunt brought home a Sicilian bf and my grandmother threw him out of the house. She said he will make your life miserable. They married anyway and you know what, my grandmother was right on. They are still together but it was a constant struggle for my aunt. They had 5 daughters (my cousins) and only one has married.

they need to hold their parents in high respect, but, trust me....the closer the mama's boy, the further mama will push you away if you threaten their relationship!

Parental approval is not such a bad thing as it can provide an all important reality check. Definitely parents can see things we don't see. Sometimes our families can gauge a person better than we can if we have our rose-coloured goggles on. This grandma must have had a thick intuitive sense. Some people have this, where they can just read people and know more about them than you could initially guess. I think it's something of a skill where you can read a person's tone, face, words, movements and get real knowledge from that. It's something I think many people can do, but also a skill many people lack. But of course, you can't rely on your parents to tell you who to date or marry, really, and anyone who'd tell me I was up for inspection by mom would not have to be concerned about the relationship going too far to have that even happen.

and anyone who'd tell me I was up for inspection by mom would not have to be concerned about the relationship going too far to have that even happen. And what do you think is happening when you meet the 'rents?I didn't meet le spouse's mother until we decided to get married. Now if I'd met her family BEFORE, I might have bailed. One sister-in-law gave everybody Christmas underwear as a present and everyone immediately put the underwear on their heads!

Guuut.....is there a picture of you with that present on your head??

Just out of curiosity, has either one of you attempted to make contact?
