a rose by any other name

would you consider dating someone with the same name as one of your siblings, or even your parent?see...i could differentiate between the two...but some people get freaked out...why is that?

Oh Kay
I don't know, I think it's weird to freak out about a name. My brother dated a girl with the same name as one of my sister's, then they broke up & he married someone with the same name as another sister. We just added a middle name to the SIL so we could keep them straight. I think it would only bother me if they had the same name as my Mother. Other than that, I'd be fine with it.

I dont see any reason to get freaked out. My cousin married a man with her same first name. It does get alittle confusing, but everyone manages.

in my case, to be more specific, i went for drinks with a guy with the same name as my brother...the twist is that this is the brother that died 2 years ago...we talked about family at the pub and i did answer his questions about how many siblings i had and what they did for a living...i still consider Eric my brother so i never leave him out...when i think of my brother Eric, i feel at peace...not the least bit sad...do you think this freaked him out because of the fact that Eric passed away?

Himself's sister shares my name. He said he can't yell it out while intimate. LOL My best friend married a guy with my last name. Now everyone thinks we are sisters and the kids can't understand why I'm not a 'Real' aunty. I don't think it matters.

Years ago I was mildly interested in a woman whom I shared the same first name.

I dated a guy for quite awhile who's ex-wife had the same name as me. We just referred to her as "OJ"....as in the Other J****. It worked for us. I had to see a picture of her though to make sure we didn't look alike though - that would have really been weird!!!

I would be weirded out but I don't think it's a deal breaker -- now, if he had the same name as one of my exes...well, that would be a different story!

My father and brother have the same name so that cuts down the odds, but so far I have not dated anyone with name. Ex's on the other hand.....I seem to have a thing for Marks, had to give them all nicknames to keep the straight. Mark the Plumber, Mark the Cop, Tall Mark, Mark the loser :)

Oh Kay
I know families that are all made up of Kens. Immediate family, extended family, in laws. It's weird.

i'd be wierded out if a girl i was dating had my father's name.i don't know about you. but a girl with the name muhammad is a bit suspect.

My ex-mil had my same first name. Very Freudian. :-P And FIL started it off nicely by saying "oh, so now we have an old Joanne and a new Joanne. Um I mean a big Joanne and a little Joanne." It really **** of the MIL. It kind of voiced her fear of being replaced in her son's heart. Things did not start off well and never really got better. But he was a momma's boy with a control freak mother. I don't think the name thing was the total cause. She would have been insane either way.
