How to Select Good Date Movies

Going to the movies is an excellent venue for a fledgling relationship. The movie itself gives you both something to talk about afterwards, and the opportunity to observe each other a little more without any awkward silences. Choosing good date movies can be a lttle tricky though, when you do not know the other person very well. Here are some tips to ensure you start off in the right direction:

1.        Avoid movies containing political, racial or religious topics until you know the other person better. At this stage, you probably have no idea about their background and you could hit a sensitive subject before you have even started. Unless you have met at a political rally and already know their philosophies, good date movies err on the side of political correctness.

2.        Avoid gratuitous violence. A lot of people find excessive aggression on the big screen a bit of a turn off. You don’t want the other person thinking that you are too bloodthirsty or brutal.

3.        Good date movies should not be too depressing. Attending the cinemas should be entertaining, not the start of a counselling session. You do not want your date sobbing through the whole film. Red eyes and running mascara are not a good look!

4.        Nothing too smutty. Good date movies do not include anything involving bachelor parties or anything else that could be perceived as being too pornographic. Remember, the other person does not know you too well at this point and you do not want to give the wrong impression.

5.        Good date movies include thrillers, action, chick flicks, romances, comedies and feel good films. Al of these types of selections will give you both something to talk about over a coffee afterwards and should leave both of you feeling happy and upbeat. A positive and friendly experience is what you are trying to create.

6.        If in doubt, ask. Why not select the movie together? You can always say “I’ve heard good things about this and this” or “he/she is always in a good movie” which one would you prefer?  If you can’t agree on a movie to see together then alarm bells should be ringing.

Grab your date. Grab a bucket of popcorn. Good date movies make excellent early dates.
